Create a modifier group

Group options like toppings or milk choices so customers and cashiers can customize a product.

Modifier groups let a customer customize a product: pick a milk for a coffee, or add toppings to a pancake. Setting one up takes three parts: create the group, add modifier products to it, and assign it to a base product.

Create the group

  1. Go to Products → Modifiers.

  2. Click + Add Modifier Group. The New Modifier Group modal opens.

  3. Enter a Group Name (e.g. Pancake Toppings).

  4. Pick a Selection Type. Single Selection means the customer picks exactly one option, like a milk type for a coffee. Multiple Selection lets them pick several, like toppings on a pancake.

  5. (Optional) Set a Display Order to control where the group appears: 0 shows first, 1 second, and so on.

  6. Toggle Require selection on if the customer must pick an option to proceed. Leave it off if the modifier is purely optional.

  7. Click Create Group. A success banner appears and the group shows up in your Modifiers list.

Add modifiers to the group

  1. From the Modifiers list, open the group.

  2. Click + Add Modifier. The Add Products to Modifier Group modal opens.

  3. Click Search to add products and type the product's name.

  4. Select the product from the dropdown, then click Add Products.

Heads-up: Only products set up as modifiers appear here, and a modifier product can belong to only one modifier group. See Set up a product as a modifier for how to prepare your products.

Assign the group to a product

  1. Go to Products → Product Catalog and open the base product.

  2. Scroll to Product Type & Structure.

  3. Under Assign Modifier Groups to Product, click Choose variant groups… and select your group. The change saves automatically.

That's it. From now on, whenever a customer selects this product on your storefront or a cashier rings it up on the POS, they'll be prompted to choose from the attached modifiers.
