Print item labels when orders are ready

Print a sticker for each item when the kitchen marks an order ready, so every cup, bag, or box leaves labeled.

Item labels are stickers that print for each item when an order is ready, so every cup, bag, or box leaves the kitchen labeled. Each station can have its own Zebra label printer.

When labels print

Labels print when someone marks a ticket ready on the kitchen screen. For example, a Coffee station ticket has 2 lattes and a muffin. The barista marks it ready, and 3 labels print at the Coffee station, each showing the item, the customer's name, and "#1234 1/3", "2/3", "3/3".

Labels print from the tablet where the ticket was marked ready, so that tablet has to be on the same Wi-Fi as the label printer.

Set up item labels

You'll need the label printer's IP address. You can find it on the printer's network settings printout (your printer's manual shows how to print one). You need admin access to Vendora; if you can't save, ask your account owner.

  1. In Vendora, go to Settings → Devices, open the Kitchen Display Systems tab, and click KDS V2.

  2. Open the Stations tab and click the station that should print labels.

  3. On the Ready item labels card, turn on the switch so it reads Printing on.

  4. In Printer IPv4 address, enter the label printer's IP address.

  5. In Label width (mm) and Label height (mm), enter the size of the labels on your roll. The defaults fit a standard 2" × 1" label.

  6. If the sticker on the printer says 300 dpi, click Advanced printer settings and set Printer resolution to 300 dpi. Otherwise leave it.

  7. Click Save changes.

Leave Print automatically when marked Ready on. Turn it off only if you want labels to print just when someone taps print on the ticket. The ZPL template is already filled in with the item, its modifiers, the customer's name, and the order number, and the Preview shows how it will look.

If your kitchen uses Mark all ready on the tablet, choose whether it prints labels too. On the Displays tab, click the pencil next to the tablet, open Ticket board, and under Item labels pick an option. Most kitchens: Ask each time, so staff can skip labels for orders that already went out.

Check it

  1. Place a test order with 2 items that go to the station.

  2. On the kitchen screen, mark the ticket ready.

  3. Check that 2 labels print and show the right items.

If labels don't print

  • The tablet shows Labels · 1: tap it, do what the message says (load a new roll, close the cover, or un-pause the printer), then tap Retry.

  • "Can't reach the label printer": check the printer is on and on the same Wi-Fi as the tablet, and that the IP address on the station matches the printer.

  • Nothing prints and no message appears: check the station's Ready item labels card says Printing on and Print automatically when marked Ready is on.

  • A label smudged or fell off: tap the printer icon on the ticket, then Labels. This prints labels for the whole order again.
