Get started with the Kitchen Display System (KDS)

Pick the kitchen setup that fits your store, then follow the checklist to get tickets printing and showing in your kitchen.

The Kitchen Display System (KDS) sends each order to the right part of your kitchen: printed, on a screen, or both. Pick your setup, then follow the checklist.

⚠️ Orders from third-party delivery apps never reach the kitchen. Only register and online store orders print or show, so keep making delivery-app orders from the delivery app.

Pick your setup

A station is a part of your kitchen that gets its own tickets, like the Grill or the Bar.

Café with one counter printer: one station, Kitchen, with every item sent to it, and one printer linked to it. Most cafés: use an Epson network printer, which prints with no tablet. Any other printer needs one KDS tablet set to Print only, linked to Kitchen.

Restaurant with grill and fryer printers and an expo screen: two stations, Grill and Fryer, each with its own printer, and one expo tablet set to Print & display and linked to both. A burger and fries prints a burger ticket at the grill and a fries ticket at the fryer, and both show at expo. Set any extra screens to Display only.

Screens only, no paper: one station and one tablet per area, for example Grill and Bar, each tablet set to Display only and linked to its own station.

Find your KDS settings

  1. In Vendora, go to Settings → Devices.

  2. At the top, choose your store.

  3. Open the Kitchen Display Systems tab and click the KDS V2 card.

You need admin access to Vendora; if you can't save, ask your account owner.

Set it up

Check it worked

At a register, place a test order with an item for each station. Within a few seconds, each station's ticket should print once, show on its screen, or both.

If it doesn't work

  • An item didn't print or show anywhere: send it to a station in Choose what prints where.

  • Every ticket prints twice at one station: two tablets print for it. Set one to Display only (see Set up a KDS display (tablet)).

  • A delivery-app order didn't print: expected; see the warning at the top.

For anything else, see Fix common KDS problems.
