Use the KDS during service

How to read tickets, work the board, handle scheduled orders, and set sounds on the kitchen tablet during a shift.

How to read tickets and work through them on the kitchen tablet during a shift.

⚠️ A cancelled order just disappears from the tablet. No chit prints to say so. If you've already started it, check with the front counter before you bin it.

Read a ticket

  • Top: the customer's name, or the order number. The timer counts up from when the ticket came up, and turns yellow, then red when the order is late.

  • Under the name: the station and order type, such as Pickup or In-Store.

  • Red box: the customer's note. Read it first.

  • Items: with modifiers and notes underneath. The count on the right (2/3) shows how many you've checked off.

Work the board

  1. Tap each item as it's done to check it off. This doesn't finish the ticket.

  2. Tap Mark ready when the whole order is ready. Item labels print now, if your kitchen uses them. The ticket moves to Done (or Ready, if your tablet has that tab).

  3. Tap Hand off when the customer or driver takes it.

  • Set a ticket aside: tap Hold, then Resume on the Hold tab to bring it back.

  • Marked ready by mistake: tap Recall. If it was already handed off, tap Recall twice.

  • Clear a rush: tap Mark all ready (if your tablet has it), then Mark N ready. Every ticket on Active is marked ready, even ones your search hides. Tickets on hold stay put.

  • Find an order: type in Name, # or item, or pick an order type from the filter.

  • Print another copy: tap the printer icon on the ticket. If asked, tap Ticket or Labels.

Scheduled orders on the tablet

Orders for later wait off the board until it's time to start them. At that time, each one moves onto Active and prints by itself.

  1. Tap the blue 📅 Scheduled button (it shows only while orders are waiting). Each ticket shows the time it will come up.

  2. To start one early, tap Mark ready or Hold on it.

  3. Tap Back to board.

Your manager sets when tickets come up (see Set prep times for scheduled orders).

Sounds

Tap the gear icon at the top right. Under Notifications:

  • New order sound turns the new-ticket sound on or off. Tap Chime, Ding, Bell, or Double beep to hear and pick one. Most kitchens: skip Double beep, because it's also the offline alarm.

  • Offline alert sound repeats a double beep while the tablet is offline. Leave it on.

When something looks wrong

  • "Network connection lost" or a red bar at the top: new orders aren't arriving. Check the Wi-Fi, and take new orders from the register until it's back.

  • "Print failed" on a ticket: tap its printer icon. If it fails again, the message says what to check.

  • A "Labels" button at the top: some item labels didn't print. Tap it, then Retry or Print again.

  • A chit reads "!! NEEDS ATTENTION !!": make the order from its ticket on the tablet.
